I now have final mixes of the first 6 songs of my first solo release, Watching Leaves Fall, which is about half the album. Progress over the last week has been great and I’ve been surprisingly productive. The second half of the album is going to need more work but I’m confident I’ll have it finished in the next couple weeks. Therefore I’m going to set a release date of August 29th, about a month ahead. That way I’ll have plenty of time to finish up the making of the album as well as the little things such as album art.
Unfortunately there’s been very little in terms of new releases this July. The new Phish album was originally supposed to come out this week but it got pushed back to early September, and the new Slayer was pushed from June/July to “late summer”. Thankfully, the rest of the year looks very exciting with a new Arctic Monkeys album, a new Between the Buried and Me album (!), a live Protest the Hero release, the aforementioned Slayer and Phish albums, and much more. There’s plenty of great music to come and I’ll try to review as much as I can.

At camp I wrote about 3 minutes of a new Lifting Shadows song. I’ve played it a few times since I’ve returned home and it definitely needs some work but it has some interesting ideas and it’s a good foundation to base a new song on. I haven’t written a Lifting Shadows song now for a couple months so it’s nice to be back into that headspace. I don’t know quite where I’m going to go with it yet, but I like to try out new ideas in every song and I was perhaps thinking of writing some very minimalist sections and seeing how that works out.
Today was also the first day since I’ve returned from camp that I worked on my solo album, and I “bounced” the first four tracks (production terminology for exporting a song from the program into an audio file). This means that those 4 songs are finalized, partly because I believe there’s nothing more I could really do to them and partly because I’m sick of playing them over and over again to try and find anything to fix. I will be working on it a lot the next few weeks to have it ready to release by the end of summer. Assuming I don’t cut any tracks (which may happen), it looks like the album will have 13 tracks.
That’s all for now, I’m still planning on maybe doing a review this week but if by circumstance I don’t get around to it, I apologize.
