Withdrawl

I’m currently on vacation in Canada. Montreal, to be exact. Now don’t get me wrong I like vacations and getting away for a week or so, but there’s one part that makes it almost impossible for me to get through. No guitar or piano for a whole week! That’s harsh.

When I get back Saturday night I’m going to have a busy week. After that one week back at home I’m off to a camp for 3 weeks. It’s not terrible because I’ll take my guitar with me, and I’m actually going to be doing musical stuff there (I’ll post more on that later).

In that one week between vacation and camp I plan to write, record, and release a solo EP, as well as practice with Lifting Shadows 2 or 3 times. Not to mention I’ll be having an hour and a half of Spanish tutoring too.

I’ve had a lot of ideas floating around lately that don’t really fit in to what Lifting Shadows is, which is a heavy progressive metal band. I’ve been writing some stuff that doesn’t really fit that mold. So in that week I’m going to try and write these ideas, record them, and release it for free online. The ideas I have in my head are exciting, so if they turn out half as good as I imagine I’ll be very happy!

Ideally the EP will be 5 tracks and 20-30 minutes long. Tracks 1, 3, and 5 would be long pieces (no estimates but probably 8-10 minutes or so), with tracks 2 and 4 being short segues, probably guitar only. I’ve already written one of the segues, it’s a nice clean guitar piece and I think it may be the only thing I’ve written that is actually happy sounding =)

I’ll post progress reports next week of how it’s all turning out. And I might find some time this week to write a review, though I’m not promising anything.
